When should I choose galvanised shelving over painted?
Choose galvanised shelving for cold rooms, refrigerated warehouses, food processing areas, outdoor stores and coastal facilities. Galvanising bonds zinc to the steel, giving long-term protection against moisture, condensation and corrosion. Powder-coated shelving is fine for dry indoor environments. If the environment is wet, cold, salty or hygiene-controlled, specify galvanised.
What is the load capacity of bolted shelving?
Bolted shelving typically carries around 100 kg per shelf under uniform load. Heavier duty can be specified with thicker steel, shorter spans or additional levels, and the final figure is confirmed against your stock when we quote.

Can Spode design custom shelving systems?
Yes. Spode builds every shelving system to your stock profile, bay span, shelf depth and load class. Custom bay heights, shelf counts, finishes (powder-coat or hot-dip galvanised), bin accessories and divider configurations are standard scope. Custom CAD layouts and 3D drawings are produced as part of the quotation for larger projects.
What is the difference between shelving and racking?
Shelving is for hand-loaded boxes, parts, tools and consumables, accessed manually without forklifts. Racking is for pallet storage using forklifts: uprights, beams and frames carry heavy pallet loads at height. Most warehouses use both: racking for bulk pallet storage and shelving for picking, parts and consumables.
